Vic Venters is Senior Editor for Shooting Sportsman. He is a contributor to The Double Gun Journal and to Sporting Classics in the United States, and to Fieldsports and The Shooting Gazette in the U.K. He is the author of Gun Craft: Fine Guns & Gunmakers in the 21st Century and is co-author (text) of The Best of British, with David Grant (photography). His views on fine guns as collectibles have been quoted in Worth and in London’s Financial Times.

Venters graduated from The University of North Carolina with a B.A. in history and he completed two years of graduate studies at Louisiana State University in journalism and the history of the American South. He lives near Wilmington, NC, with his wife and son.





David Grant studied photography and graphic design at Lanchester College of Art. He held senior management positions at AE Engineering, AEI, and Cadbury Schweppes before going freelance to specialize in food and gun photography, corporate recruitment, and advertising illustration.

His photography has been commissioned by many of the world’s leading gunmakers for catalogs and advertisements. He has reviewed guns for The Shooting Times & Country Magazine and for The Shooting Gazette in the UK. His articles and photography have been published in The Double Gun Journal and Shooting Sportsman in the US, as well as in Russian publications. He has hunted in the US and shoots extensively throughout the UK—most of the time with a Stephen Grant sidelock, built in 1922. He lives with his wife in the Midlands, not far from Stratford-on-Avon.
